Miniature Dummy Board Figures

Susanne and Stephen present a unique collection of one twelfth scale trompe l'oeil figures drawn from existing 17th, 18th and 19th and some 20th century dummy boards.

Hand painted in oils on bass wood, these figures are hand made replicas of dummy boards held in the collections of country houses, chateaux, museums and private houses in the world. Finished to a high standard and created in exactly the same way as the full sized originals, these figures will bring an extra dimension to your miniature home be it a cottage or a castle.

Miniature Basket of FruitEach handpainted replica creation is a unique representation of the original and bears the seal of the artist. Every 1 /12th dummy board figure is presented in an attractive box with an accompanying leaflet giving the provenance, history, full description of the figure and a brief resume of the history of the art form.

Susanne has made a study of the art of the historical dummy board and is one of the most significant scholars in the subject today. Her book, "This Quiet Life" contains descriptions of more than 300 different dummy board figures from all over the world, and her detailed knowledge of this art form has enabled her to reproduce, by permission and copyright, many of the more interesting dummy board figures as accurately as possible in fine detail for the historically correct dolls house interior or the miniature collector. Found in many types of houses, from the, 17th to the early 20th century, dummy boards were as much a part of the furniture as a table or a tallboy and would be equally as decorative an accessory as the tea caddy or sewing box to the miniature home. Pastmastery miniature figures carry on a four hundred year old tradition and for those collectors who prefer not to display dolls, they will people rooms with figures of whimsy, charm and historical accuracy.

There are many historic dummy board figures to chose from should you like a replica in particular- just e mail PastMastery.... but any full length portrait should be able to be rendered as a miniature board. Send a photograph to sue@pastmastery.com and we will let you know if we can reproduce it as a dollshouse miniature. You can even have YOUR OWN FACE painted into a costume of your choice so that you can stand in any room in your own one twelfth home. Likewise your pet can be painted so that he or she can lie in front of the fire in your dollshouse and never demand to be taken out for a walk! E mail PastMastery with your ideas!

Please contact Susanne should you like her to come and talk to your dollshouse or miniature society. With the aid of slides of historic figures and real life, full sized and miniature replicas, she will explain how historic dummy boards were made, their origins in the 17th century, how she came to be fascinated by them and why she felt compelled to study and then reproduce these fascinating antique figures. She will explain, how PastMastery miniature figures are made and will help you to become familiar with how to use them in your own dollshouse or roombox.
