The Lamport PairThe Lamport Boy and Girl

A pair of figures which reside at Lamport Hall in Northamptonshire U.K. are good examples of the ‘mass produced’ dummy boards made at the end of the 17th century beginning of the 18th by London sign or coach painters.

These English made boys and girls are found all over the world from Australia to Norway and are the type of dummy board figures most commonly found in collections today. Single figures are also found and it might be that they have become separated from their fellows.

These dummy boards are generally not well executed and are painted sketchily in few cheap paint colours. Nevertheless they are a very sought after figure as their size, at about three feet makes them ideal for the modern home.
