Mme de Pompadour
This is not an actual dummy board but is based on a beautiful three feet high painting, by Francois Boucher, ( 1703–1770) whch is in the Wallace collection in London. The play of light on the intricate ruffles of the lace of her exquisite pale apricot dress and the beautiful soft painting of her features were all crying out to be painted in miniature. The Mistress of Louis the XV this beautiful woman was created Marquise de Pompadour in her own right. She was an accomplished woman with a good eye for Rococo interiors and was responsible for the development of the manufactory of Sèvres, which became one of the most famous porcelain manufacturers in Europe. She had a keen interest in literature and had known Voltaire before her ascendancy, and the writer, essayist, philosopher apparently advised her in her courtly role. She also discreetly endorsed Diderot's Encyclopédie project and famously designed the Petit Trianon. The King was devoted to her until her tragically early death at the age of 42 from tuberculosis. France was famous for the production of dummy boards in her lifetime and it is fitting that such a beautiful and clever woman should have one of herself.Have a look at the picture of her sitting in her rose bower on the roof the house in the Christmas KDF pictures.
